Alamanahjurnalis.com - Hajj and Umrah are two different acts of worship that have the same other names as Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha. If Eid al-Fitr comes with another term al-'idul ashghar (small ID), and Eid al-Adha with the term al-'idul akbar (big ID), then the Hajj is also known by other names al-hajjul akbar (big pilgrimage) and Umrah with the name al-hajjul ashghar (little pilgrim).

Quoted from NU Online, this kind of term was coined around 14 centuries ago by the Prophet himself. In a history of Abdullah bin Abu Bakr, the Prophet once wrote a letter to 'Amr bin Hazm. On the sheet it is written, Annal 'umrata hiya al-hajjul ashgharu (The Umrah worship is actually a small pilgrimage (al-Umm, juz 2, p. 145). This is of course to answer the people's anxiety about what the Umrah actually is, as well as a continuation of The statement states that the essence of the Hajj pilgrimage that differentiates it from others is the wukuf on Arafah, so that this Umrah without wukuf, apart from having the same method of implementation, is called the "small Hajj".

Even though Umrah is not included in the five pillars of Islam like Hajj, that does not mean its position is not important. In fact, these two acts of worship have the same strategic place, both before God and in the social construct.

The Prophet Muhammad himself, before moving to Medina, had performed the Hajj twice as bequeathed by his ancestor, Ibrahim 'alaihissalam. And, he also closed and locked the implementation procedures.

Referring to al-Firk as-Sami, Muhammad bin al-Hasan wrote the great wisdom of Hajj and Umrah which is summarized in the following sentence: "Among the wisdom of Hajj (and Umrah), namely the creation of a large gathering (from all corners of the world), the birth of a unity and closeness among all Muslims, also with the Hajj and Umrah some people can find out the condition of others. Apart from that, they have the opportunity to gain a lot of knowledge and wide open business opportunities, and so on. Hajj and Umrah promise two great benefits; social and spiritual benefits simultaneously.”
